2008

Well, I love January because I think beginning a new year is so exciting. I usually feel so refreshed and motivated. Anyway, my new motivation these last few days lead us to buying the boys their first set of bunk beds and redoing their bedroom. They are so excited about their beds however this month has taken a slightly different turn then what we thought.

Last night we were upstairs in the boys room assembling their beds and to make a long story short Colter fell and broke his elbow. I know your thinking, 'what didn't he just barely hurt his elbow not even a month ago'. Yes, he did. Landon and Colter love to playing in Colter's bed and I had just lowered the railing on the crib so Landon and his cousin could climb out by themselves when a few minutes after they were out of the crib Colter took a backwards fall before I had raised the rail back up into place. I was right by the crib when Colter fell but still by the time I got to him to pick him up he was on his back and his arm was twisted. I'll save you the gory details of how I instantly knew it was broken because honestly I'm trying to forget how awful it was.

Within a half an hour we were in the ER getting x rays, thank goodness they were quick with us. After x rays they called in an Orthopedic surgeon to come and look at the x rays and talk to us. We ended up being sent up to Primary Children's Hospital for surgery. They told us Colter had broken through about 7 growth plates and needed to have surgery. We arrived up at Primary Children's at about 9:30 pm last night and almost exactly 12 hours later this morning he was wheeled back for surgery. Let's just say it was a LONG night. But the surgery went well and he is home recovering. It has been very traumatic for us. We are sad to start off our new year with this but are so grateful for so many things and so grateful that Colter will be okay. We are so grateful for all of our support system and all of your help!

jill, I am so sorry, what a nightmare. I hate when my kids get hurt. it just gives me the sickest feeling inside. that would be so traumatic. I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. good luck with the recovery. I'll have to keep checking for updates.
